This release was issued under a previous government.

Given the cooler weather and rain throughout Southern Alberta, water temperatures have decreased and the threat to fish mortality has diminished such that angling may resume in most areas.

While fishing has resumed in most of Southern Alberta, anglers throughout the rest of Eastern Slopes Zone 1 are encouraged to continue abiding by the following safe handling practices:

  • Fish in stocked ponds and lakes;
  • Fish early in the mornings; and
  • Minimize handling time and release fish as quickly as possible.

Fish Research Licence holders may now resume approved activities.

Anglers with inquiries are asked to contact the Alberta Environment and Parks information line, toll-free at 310-3773.

Alberta Environment and Parks staff will continue to monitor water levels and temperatures and issue angling restrictions as necessary.
