“Our province’s farm families are the heart of rural Alberta, and the ongoing success of the agriculture sector depends greatly on their hard work and commitment. It is an honour to recognize families who have contributed so much to their communities and built a tremendous legacy through many generations.”
“If it were not for the vision of my grandparents who decided to settle and farm here, our family would not have farmed our land for so long. My grandfather’s first quarter of land became my first quarter and will likely be passed to one of my children. It is a family tradition that we are very proud of.”
Recipients of the Century Farm and Ranch Award receive a bronze plaque to commemorate this significant milestone. A total of 58 families are being recognized across the province this year, including 16 families who will be honoured in Spruce Grove on July 30.
Since 1993, more than 1,500 families have received Century Farm and Ranch Awards.
Agriculture is the province’s largest renewable industry, with exports valued at more than $9 billion annually. There are more than 43,000 farms totaling 50.5 million acres.
