Under provincial legislation, Dr. Amrhein will be responsible to provide governance oversight of Alberta Health Services. He will work in partnership with Alberta Health to ensure all Albertans have access to high quality health services across the province. The Official Administrator is accountable to the Minister of Health.

Dr. Amrhein comes to Alberta Health Services from the University of Alberta, where he was serving his third term as Provost and Vice-President (Academic). Previously, Dr. Amrhein spent 17 years at the University of Toronto. He earned his PhD in Geography from State University of New York at Buffalo. His research interests include economic geography, labour markets, decision theory, and quantitative methods.

Current Official Administrator Janet Davidson will return to her role as Deputy Minister of Alberta Health. Minister Mandel thanks Ms. Davidson for stepping into the Official Administrator role on an interim basis.
