More to explore at Hilliard’s Bay Provincial Park

Visitors to Hilliard’s Bay will enjoy bigger RV sites and widened campground trails as part of the upgrades to the popular northwestern Alberta provincial park.

Hilliards Bay Provincial Park Reopens

“Improving our provincial parks system is important in order to enhance the experiences and opportunities for our wide range of users. Hilliard’s Bay is one of our parks system’s gems and I’m excited for visitors to come out this summer and see for themselves the significant changes throughout the park.”

Richard Starke, Minister of Tourism, Parks and Recreation

Started in 2011, the more than $1.3 million in upgrades to Hilliard’s Bay also include:

  • more campsites with power;
  • improved access to the beach; and,
  • upgrades to the day use area.

Albertans are invited to the Hilliard’s Bay grand reopening at noon on July 19 for a ribbon cutting, activities, cake and refreshments.

“Enhancements to this beautiful park will draw people to experience its beauty while providing opportunities to connect with nature. Hilliard's Bay is another wonderful example of government investing in our parks system and supporting tourism and recreation in the northwest, something the people of Lesser Slave Lake have always said.”

Pearl Calahasen, MLA for Lesser Slave Lake

Other investments in provincial parks completed this season include:

  • enhanced RV offerings, including 20 larger full-service sites at Beaver Creek campground;
  • addition of power to 27 sites at Vermilion Provincial Park, which also recently celebrated the grand opening of a new spray park;

Capital investment in Alberta’s provincial parks will continue this year with almost $17 million allotted under Budget 2014.

Hilliard’s Bay is part of Alberta’s extensive system of almost 500 provincial parks and protected areas that range from recreation-friendly to conservation-focused. Visit and click on Find a Park to discover where to find the outdoor experience you want with the amenities you need.
