In September 2011, it was determined that a man-made blockage in a watercourse on the company’s property was obstructing flow. Alberta Environment and Sustainable Resource Development contacted the company on multiple occasions asking them to remove the blockage. However, a follow-up inspection found that the water course was still blocked and causing flooding on adjacent land.
The order requires the company to immediately remove the blockage from the watercourse, and to complete work that will restore the watercourse and surrounding land to pre-disturbance conditions by no later than June 8.
Water management orders are issued under the authority of Alberta's Water Act. The Alberta government can issue orders to remedy a number of environmental problems. The orders are designed to ensure immediate action is taken to correct a situation.
