In 2000, Alberta Infrastructure/Transportation commissioned Woodroofe and Associates to review rail operations efficiency and viability arising from productivity changes within the North American rail industry during the last 25 years. The results of the study indicate that efficient rail and trucking sectors are seen to function complementarily to each other as beneficial components of the overall transportation "menu" available to shippers.
