Public Lands Camping Pass required

A Public Lands Camping Pass is required to random camp on public land along the eastern slopes of the Rocky Mountains.

Visit Bighorn Backcountry for area closures, trail updates and maps pertaining to the 6 public land use zones that make up the Bighorn Backcountry.

Closures

Temporary road closure – Whispering Pines Road (DLO2847) in Ghost PLUZ

Whispering Pines Road that provides access to the Waiparous Creek OHV staging area within Waiparous Creek Provincial Recreation Area from highway 40 will be closed for fish habitat restoration work, including culvert replacement work. The staging area will still be accessible by OHV via the designated OHV trail network (north and south from trail marker 108), but will not be accessible to any highway vehicles during this time. Alternate staging areas available: Parking lot east of trail marker 95 in Waiparous Creek Provincial Recreation Area, South Ghost Staging Area, Ghost Airstrip (trail marker 117).
