A person can apply for a permanent land agent licence if they:

The Land Agents Licensing Distance Learning Course may be completed before or during the interim land agent licensing stage.

You must pass the course with a grade of 70% or greater.
An interim land agent can apply for a Permanent Land Agent Licence after working for at least 12 consecutive months under a training agreement.
If a conditional license is granted, an applicant may have to practice longer, for example 18 months, 24 months.
The interim land agent’s trainer must file a performance evaluation with the Registrar of Land Agents using the following form:

You should submit a Permanent Land Agent License application at least 6 to 8 months prior to your Interim Land Agent Licence expiry date. If your Interim Licence is close to expiring, you can renew it while waiting for your Permanent Land Agent Licence.

The $100 application fee can be paid as a cheque or money order made payable to the Government of Alberta.
If your application is approved, you will be contacted to schedule a suitable date and place to write the Permanent Land Agent Licence exam. You must pass the exam with a mark of 70% or greater.
Currently, exams are held every first and third Monday of the month in Edmonton and every second Wednesday of the month in Calgary (subject to change).
A permanent land agent licence expires 2 years after the date of issue. Requests for renewal have to be received 2 to 3 weeks in advance to allow for vetting and processing times.

On January 1, 2021, we will replace the Guidelines – Qualifications for Renewal of a Permanent Land Agent License with a new, updated version.
From January 20, 2020 to January 1, 2021 there will be a transition period to help applicants meet the new continuing competency guidelines.
Applicants with a license expiry date before January 1, 2021 (including new or returning applicants who apply or re-apply) may follow either the updated 2020 guidelines or the 2008 guidelines.
Applicants with a license expiry date after January 1, 2021 (including new or returning applicants who apply or re-apply) must follow the updated 2020 guidelines.
