Canadian Supplier Day allows Alberta suppliers to showcase high quality agri-food products, engage in meetings with pre-qualified, import-ready Mexican buyers, ultimately increasing export opportunities in the Mexican market. The Consulate General of Canada in Monterrey, Mexico, together with Export Development Canada (EDC) leads this mission.
The centrepiece of the Canadian Supplier Day is a one-day event - October 30, 2019 - which combines a “mini-show” with pre-arranged business meetings with major Mexican buyers, based on mutual interest. Participants are welcome to include non-perishable items in their display. Complementary programming, such as an educational seminar and store tours, will be coordinated on October 29, 2019, for companies to gain Mexican market intelligence prior to the show.
Canadian suppliers for this event are being recruited for diverse distribution sales channels, with a special focus on retailers, food service companies, private label, importers and distributors.
To be eligible to participate in this mission, Alberta companies should be export-ready and offer products within the following categories:
- Bakery products
- Functional food and snacks
- Gourmet/specialty grocery
- Non alcoholic beverages
The Mexican market has become attractive for Canadian exporters, as its consumers highly value the outstanding quality of Canadian agri-food products. Monterrey is Mexico´s third largest city, second-largest industrial hub and it has the highest per-capita income in Mexico and Latin America. Monterrey serves as a business and financial center for northern Mexico. It is home to some of Mexico’s most important agri-food retailers, HRI firms, and importers/distributors including Soriana, HEB, Sigma Alimentos, Sigma Foodservice, Qualtia Alimentos, Food Service Group, among others.
Costs and Eligible Expenses
There is no participation fee for Canadian companies to take part in the Canadian Supplier Day.
Participating companies will be responsible for their own travel expenses and costs associated with the importation of their samples. Alberta companies may be eligible for a grant to help offset these travel costs through The Canadian Agricultural Partnership program under Products to Market – Stream B.
