Alberta's Vaccine Lottery

Alberta’s Vaccine Lottery is open from 12:30 pm mountain daylight time June 14, 2021 until 11:59 pm mountain daylight time September 23, 2021.

The winner of the remaining $1,000,000 draw is scheduled to be announced on September 30, 2021.

Winners of the additional non-cash prizes will be notified between June 14, 2021 and September 30, 2021. Draws for these and other non-cash prizes took place on various dates between June 14, 2021 and September 30, 2021.

The final draws in Alberta’s Vaccine Lottery are open to all Alberta residents, age 18 or older at the time of entry, who have received 2 doses of a COVID-19 vaccine accepted by Alberta Health Services, except for the following:

• Members of the Legislative Assembly of Alberta and members of their households
• Political staff members appointed pursuant to the Premier’s and Ministers’ Staff Employment Order (OC341-2020) and members of their households
• Employees of the Alberta Public Service who are directly involved in design or administration of Alberta’s Vaccine Lottery program, and members of their households
• Contractors, subcontractors, or employees of contractors or subcontractors who are directly involved in design or administration of Alberta’s Vaccine Lottery, and members of their households

Eligibility for the first prize draw in Alberta’s Vaccine Lottery has closed. The winner of the first $1 million prize was announced on July 1, 2021.

Eligibility for this draw has closed. Winners have been notified.

Individuals who have registered to enter Alberta’s Vaccine Lottery first prize draw were automatically entered in all subsequent prize draws, including the $1,000,000 prize draw scheduled to be announced on September 30, 2021.

To be eligible to win the final $1,000,000 prize an individual must have received 2 doses of a COVID-19 vaccine accepted by Alberta Health Services on or before the draw date. Individuals who have received the one dose Janssen (Johnson and Johnson) COVID-19 vaccine will be eligible for all draws as of the date they register in the Alberta’s Vaccine Lottery without requiring a second dose of any other COVID-19 vaccine.

Individuals who register between 12 am mountain daylight time August 25, 2021 and 11:59 pm mountain daylight time September 23, 2021 will be entered in all subsequent prize draws, including but not limited to the September 30, 2021 final prize draw for $1,000,000.

The winner of any $1,000,000 prize draw is not eligible to win any further prizes in Alberta’s Vaccine Lottery.

Random draws will be conducted by Stride Management Corp. on behalf of the Government of Alberta from among all the eligible entries, received on the dates specified above. The winner of the remaining draw is scheduled to be announced on September 30, 2021, for the final $1,000,000 prize.

The announcement dates of winners of a prize draw may be changed at the discretion of the Government of Alberta if more time is required to verify a winner’s eligibility to be awarded a prize as drawn.

Draws for non-cash prizes took place on various dates between June 14, 2021 and September 30, 2021.

If a prize draw date has multiple non-cash prizes, the draws were made in order from the highest cash or cash equivalent prize to the lowest cash or cash equivalent prize. The first selected registrant to meet all of the eligibility requirements was declared the prize winner, subject to meeting all conditions described in these rules.

Following each draw, Alberta Health will contact winners from that draw at the email or phone number provided by the winner in their entry.

Winners will have up to five (5) calendar days from the day Alberta Health first attempts to contact the winner to do the following:

• Notify Alberta Health they wish to claim their prize; and
• provide the necessary records as required or requested by Alberta Health so it may determine the winner’s eligibility to be awarded their prize.

Alberta Health may, in its sole discretion, extend this 5 day claims period.

For clarity the first day of the five (5) day claim period commences at 12:00 am mountain daylight time on the calendar day when Alberta Health makes its first attempt to contact a winner by way of the winner’s email address or telephone number in their entry. For further clarity the 5th calendar day expires at 11:59 pm of that day.

By way of example if a prize draw is made on June 25, 2021 and the winner is first contacted by Alberta Health on June 26, 2021 then the winner must notify Alberta Health they wish to claim their prize and provide all the necessary documents to verify their eligibility for that prize no later than 11:59 pm mountain daylight time on June 30, 2021.

Subsequent to being contacted by a winner indicating they wish to claim their prize Alberta Health will commence the process to verify the eligibility of a winner in accordance with the rule of Alberta’s Vaccine Lottery prior to awarding the winner their prize.

If the winner does not notify they wish to accept their prize and provide the necessary verification records to Alberta Health within the above noted 5 day claim period, or the winner declines its prize, or fails to provide the information required to verify their eligibility, the prize shall be forfeited and the Government of Alberta may re-draw the prize.

Draw dates are subject to change. If draw dates change, or additional draw dates are added, the new dates and registration deadlines will be posted on the website alberta.ca/lottery. The procedure for awarding prizes will remain the same regardless of any change of draw dates.

1. Alberta’s Vaccine Lottery is only open to Alberta residents. Winners will have to provide proof of their identity in the form of valid government-issued identification. Winners will also be required to provide proof of their residency which includes valid government-issued identification with their current address, a utility bill in their name, bank statement, or similar record showing an Alberta address before they are awarded their prize.
2. A winner’s proof of residency should match the address provided on the winner`s registration and where any provided proof of residency does not match the address on their registration a winner may be asked to provide further proof of residency in Alberta, as determined by the Government of Alberta, prior to receiving their prize.
3. Winners of Alberta’s Vaccine Lottery will be required to consent that their submitted proof of identity and proof of residency information can be collected, used, and disclosed, in accordance with Alberta’s privacy legislation, by the Government of Alberta and its lottery administration contractors for the purpose of verifying a person’s eligibility as a resident of Alberta in Alberta’s Vaccine Lottery.
4. Winners of Alberta’s Vaccine Lottery will have their immunization status verified before they can be awarded their prize. For winners who have received their vaccine doses in Alberta, their vaccine status will be verified by Alberta Health and Alberta Health Services, as applicable. For winners who have received a vaccine dose outside of Alberta, and have not submitted records of having received this vaccination to Alberta Health Services as of the draw date of their prize, the winner must provide proof of having received a COVID-19 vaccine to Alberta Health and Alberta Health Services for the purpose of determining the winner’s vaccine status and eligibility to be awarded their prize as drawn. The proof required to be submitted by a winner to verify their vaccine status in these circumstances will be determined by Alberta Health and Alberta Health Services, in their sole discretion.
5. Winners will be required to consent that their immunization status information can be collected, used, and disclosed in accordance with Alberta’s privacy legislation by and among the Government of Alberta, Alberta Health Services and the Government of Alberta’s lottery administration contractors for the purpose of verifying the winner’s immunization status as per the rules applicable to the winner’s prize. For clarity this consent must also be provided by a winner who has been immunized outside of Alberta.
6. No additional health information will be collected, used or disclosed by the Government of Alberta, its employees or contractors, or Alberta Health Services for the purposes of Alberta’s Vaccine Lottery without the prior consent of a contest entrant or winner.
7. Winners’ names will be published. Additional information about winners may be published if, on request by the Government of Alberta, winners provide their specific consent.
8. Prizes must be accepted as awarded.
9. The Government of Alberta reserves the right to substitute a prize or prize component with another of comparable value.
10. Refusal to accept the prize releases the Government of Alberta from any obligation toward the winner.
11. Multiple entries and entries that are submitted or attempt to be submitted by way of any automated program or by an entry method not authorized by these rules shall not be eligible for a prize.
12. The Government of Alberta reserves the right to amend the contest rules or terminate the contest at any time without liability to any contestant. Any amendments to these rules will be posted on alberta.ca/lottery.
13. By entering you agree to abide by the contest rules and the decisions of the Government of Alberta and Alberta Health Services, as applicable with regard to this contest.
14. The Government of Alberta, Alberta Health Services, and the Government of Alberta’s lottery administration contractors, assume no responsibility for any error, omission, interruption, deletion, defect, delay in operation or transmission, communications line failure, theft or destruction or unauthorized access to, or alteration of, entries into Alberta’s Vaccine Lottery. The Government of Alberta, Alberta Health Services, and the Government of Alberta’s lottery administration contractors are not responsible for any problems, failures or technical malfunction of any telephone network or lines, computer online systems, servers, providers, computer equipment, software, email, players, or browsers, on account of technical problems or traffic congestion on the Internet, at any website, or on account of any combination of the foregoing. The Government of Alberta, Alberta Health Services, and the Government of Alberta’s lottery administration contractors are not responsible for any injury or damage to person registering for Alberta’s Vaccine Lottery or to any computer related to or resulting from participating or downloading materials in Alberta’s Vaccine Lottery. Individuals who register for Alberta’s Vaccine Lottery assume liability for injuries caused or claimed to be caused by participating in Alberta’s Vaccine Lottery, or by the acceptance, possession, use of, or failure to receive any prize. The Government of Alberta, Alberta Health Services, and the Government of Alberta’s lottery administration contractors assume no responsibility or liability in the event that Alberta’s Vaccine Lottery cannot be conducted as planned for any reason, including those reasons beyond the control of the Government of Alberta, Alberta Health Services, and the Government of Alberta’s lottery administration contractors , such as infection by computer virus, bugs, tampering, unauthorized intervention, fraud, technical failures, or corruption of the administration, security, fairness, integrity or proper conduct of Alberta’s Vaccine Lottery and the website used to register for Alberta’s Vaccine Lottery.
15. The Government of Alberta, for prizes of cash equivalent value of $275 (or less), may: (a) substitute the above rules as to verification of identity, residency, and vaccine status, and, (b) require the winner to sign a written acknowledgement prior to awarding the applicable prize: (i) confirming the winner’s information on their registration is accurate, (ii) providing consent to the collection, use and disclosure of their personal information and health information for the purpose of verifying vaccination status and, (iii) agreeing that, if the Government of Alberta subsequently determines that the winner was not eligible for the prizes awarded, the winner will be required to pay the Government of Alberta the cash value of the awarded prize, as well as any costs of recovery, and that the Government of Alberta may pursue any other remedies allowed by law.
