To protect our universally accessible, publicly funded health care system, we need to take meaningful action to improve key components of our system.
As part of the consultations, the Government of Alberta has made 11 proposals to the AMA to help build a stronger and more sustainable health system while managing physician spending growth.
Proposal 10: Non-invasive diagnostic test fees in AHS facilities
The fees paid for non-invasive procedures in AHS facilities, like some echocardiograms and ECGs, differ from facility to facility.
We’re proposing to direct AHS to standardize these fees. More specifically, we want to ensure that non-invasive diagnostic test fees performed in all AHS hospitals match fees established and paid by Alberta Health to non-AHS physicians.
This change will reduce costs across the health system, and ensure consistent compensation between hospital and non-hospital physicians.
