An Afrofuturist, a naked fetishist, and a community activist walk into a barbershop… Silence is Prescribed (G): Documentary, Directed by Miguel Missé, 18 minutes, Spain. While they were growing up, Cristina and Lola were prescribed silence. They obeyed and kept silent for a long time, until today. The protagonists of this documentary short film raise their voices to get closer to their intersex life stories and share their reflections on bodies, identities, and desire. A liberating opportunity not only for them, but for all people. Stories from Land Back Camp (G): Documentary, Directed by Erik O’Neill, Amy Smoke, and Bangishimo, 26 minutes, Canada. On Indigenous peoples’ day a large tepee was erected in a busy, urban park close to O:se Kenhionhata:tie (Willow River, presently called the Grand River) with the intention to assert an Indigenous presence just for the day. Over 100 days later, the tepee still remained standing, with the space around it transformed into a camp of queer, Two Spirit, trans, and/or non-binary youth learning and practicing their Indigenous cultural heritages and demanding Land Back.

These stories take us on a journey of birth, destruction, transformation, diaspora, gender identity, societal rejection, and healing – all through the POC lens. We begin with TIERRA, wherein a third gender Muxe emerges from the earth from an ancestral lineage. The journey of emotions takes the audience through longing, fear, transformation, desire, connection – and brings us back full circle to Many Bloodlines in which a queer Indigenous parent welcomes their newborn child with a Cree message of love.
