‘This webinar series takes the popular workshop delivered in the past to Alberta food companies online,’ says Margurite Thiessen, value chain specialist with Alberta Agriculture and Forestry.

‘The aim is to provide information and tools to prepare businesses to enter the retail marketplace.’

The first webinar, Food and Retail Landscape, provides an overview of the retail food market including key market drivers, market trends and the benefits and challenges of selling in this market channel. Participants will hear an industry speaker’s perspective on navigating the retail landscape.

Thinking Strategically about Getting into Retail is the second webinar in this series. This session explores the components to consider when evaluating readiness to enter into retail, from production, packaging and labelling, to pricing and making the pitch.

‘In this webinar, participants will hear from a company that has grown from supplying 50 stores in Alberta to 300 nationwide, along with the ups and downs of the journey.’

The final session, Connecting with the Retail Food Buyers and Business Development Advisors, wraps up the webinar series by connecting with 2 retail food buyers who will share their thoughts on successfully getting into retail.

‘These Alberta buyers will talk about their retail program, what is important, and how to work with them when onboarding products with their banner stores,’ says Thiessen.
