Overview
ICS is Alberta’s command, control and coordination system as prescribed by the Alberta Emergency Management Agency (AEMA) under the Local Authority Emergency Management Regulation:
- AEMA serves as ICS Canada’s Authority Having Jurisdiction (AHJ) in Alberta.
- AEMA sets course administration standards for ICS practitioners in Alberta and ensures their compliance with ICS Canada Curriculum and Training Standards (PDF, 767 KB).

Recordkeeping
ICS Canada requires all ICS courses to:
- include assigned course numbers
- meet the ICS Canada Curriculum and Training Standards
- submit training records
When arranging for a course delivery, ICS Canada requires approved instructors to:
- complete and submit a training request form:
- AEMA TCS Training Request form (PDF, 84 KB)
- obtain an Alberta-specific ICS course number
- provide a summary of attendees that indicates each ‘pass’ or ‘fail’ status upon completion:

Student eligibility
When enrolling students, ICS Canada requires approved instructors to verify:
- valid proof of completion of pre-requisites
- a minimum 5-month gap between advancing courses
- written requests to waive course requirements
Teaching requirements
- Instructors who have been assigned mandatory co-teaches as part of the application process must have a co-teach form completed by the Lead Instructor:
- ICS Alberta Instructor Evaluation form (PDF, 88 KB)
- ICS position-specific courses require 2 instructors from different organizations.
Approved contractors
Only instructors approved by ICS Canada may provide ICS course certificates in Alberta:

Some external training providers are approved to deliver ICS courses for a fee. Visit the ICS Canada website for a list of ICS Canada-approved contractors.
Individuals and groups may hire ICS Canada instructors from other provinces and jurisdictions.
Out-of-province instructors must:
- meet the ICS Canada Curriculum and Training Standards (PDF, 767 KB), especially the completion of the minimum required course hours
- obtain an Alberta course number if the course is taught in Alberta or to a primarily Alberta-based class
