Managing fuel gas
Alberta Energy and Minerals is examining better ways to manage fuel gas.
Conservation measures lead to positive outcomes for Albertans. Just a 10% reduction in fuel gas use would:
- save the energy industry an estimated $150 million a year (assuming $3.25 per gigajoule)
- conserve enough natural gas to heat more than 300,000 homes for a year
- reduce greenhouse gas emissions by more than 2.1 million tonnes per year, the equivalent of taking 500,000 cars off the road
Best practices
The Alberta government worked with industry partners on best ways to:
- reduce energy consumption
- reduce greenhouse gas emissions during oil and gas extraction
