Field book scanning project

The Alberta government has scanned microfilms and paper copies of field books full of historical survey data about our township system.

Overview

The federal government provided a variety of field books to the Alberta government which contained historical survey data about our township system. From these books, The Alberta government created microfilms that now, along with the originals, reside at the Provincial Archives of Alberta.

Spatial Information System (SPIN)

In 2000, the Director of Surveys office scanned the 220,000 images from the microfilm rolls. As of April 18, 2005, these images are available on the Spatial Information System (SPIN). SPIN is where you can do graphic-and text-based searches for specific Government of Alberta land-related information.
