Purpose of travel :
The purpose of the mission was to highlight Alberta’s leadership in carbon capture and storage (CCS); enhance Alberta’s position as a leader in responsible energy development; and strengthen relationships with key U.S. investment officials, industry leaders, and energy market influencers. In Pittsburgh, Minister McQueen delivered a keynote speech at the 13th Annual Carbon Capture Utilization and Storage (CCUS) Conference. Convened in partnership with the U.S. Department of Energy and the National Energy Technology Laboratory, the conference covered many aspects of CCS from policy development, regulation, funding, and the challenges facing deployment of CCS in North America. The conference attracted approximately 300 industry and government officials from more than 20 countries. In New York City, Minister McQueen engaged in meetings with academics, representatives from financial institutions, and other influential individuals to further international dialogue and cooperation on responsible energy development. The Minister also promoted Alberta as a strong jurisdiction for investment and business.
