In September 2023, school authorities began implementing 3 new K to 3 curriculums with teachers and students in classrooms. These 3 subjects include:
In the 2023-24 school year, all K to 6 students will also be learning the new English language arts and literature and mathematics curriculums.
School authorities will have the option to implement new curriculum for grades 4 to 6 French First language and literature, French immersion language arts and literature and science or wait until the 2024-25 school year.
We will continue to take a balanced and measured approach to piloting and implementing the remaining draft K to 6 subjects.

Parents and teachers have waited a long time for a curriculum that brings a renewed focus to literacy, numeracy, citizenship and practical skills.
The revised and strengthened Kindergarten to Grade 6 (K to 6) curriculum gives students a strong base of essential knowledge for future learning.
Based on proven research, this curriculum is designed to improve student outcomes across all subjects, following several years of declining and stagnant student performance. It delivers on our commitment to refocus learning on essential knowledge and skills to give children the best possible chance at success.

The draft K to 6 curriculum was released on March 29, 2021 for a transparent, year-long public review process. Since then, we have listened to all feedback from classroom piloting and engagement activities.
