Overview

The following grants support initiatives that encompass a long-term strategic approach to coaching and/or development of officials. Preference will be given to applications that provide a series of events or initiatives that align with the Provincial Sport Organization’s long-term strategic objectives.

Above and Beyond Grant

This grant is not available at this time.

This grant is for individual coaches or officials.

The Above and Beyond Grant provides financial support to coaches and officials to pursue educational or developmental opportunities. Specifically, this is intended for a coach or an official who is in a unique situation (for example: apprenticing, geographically isolated, disadvantaged) and experiencing extraordinary circumstances.

Funding

Maximum grant per applicant is $2,000.

This grant is limited to once in a lifetime funding.

Eligibility

To be eligible for this grant:

  • coaches and officials must demonstrate an ongoing commitment to the Alberta Sport System
  • coaches must have achieved NCCP Competition-Introduction trained status or equivalent within their sport
  • officials must be provincially carded, certified or accredited
  • applicants must be a current member in good standing of a Provincial Sport Organization
  • applicants must be permanently residing in Alberta and must have been a resident of Alberta for at least one year prior to applying
  • international coach and official opportunities require applicants to be in the process of achieving NCCP Certified status or equivalent.

Coaches and Officials Education Grant

This grant is not accepting applications at this time.

This grant is for Provincial Sport Organizations.

This grant will support an increase in the frequency of sport-specific coach and officiating workshops delivered across Alberta. Priority will be given to strategies that:

  • address access and delivery in rural communities
  • target under-represented and/or marginalized populations such as:
    • women and girls
    • persons with a disability
    • Indigenous peoples
    • the economically disadvantaged
    • new Canadians

Funding

The maximum grant is $5,000 per year.

Non-consecutive year applications will be a higher priority.

Eligibility

Only Provincial Sport Organizations eligible for the Association Development Program may apply.

Applicants must be able to demonstrate an identified need as part of their long-term strategic plan for coaches or officials and alignment with the Alberta Sport Plan.

Eligible costs

Eligible costs include learning facilitator expenses and workshop material.

Coaches Evaluation Grant

This grant is not accepting applications at this time.

This grant is for Provincial Sport Organizations.

This grant will support an increase in the number of coach and officials observations, evaluations and mentorship programs that help coaches and officials achieve fully certified status across the province.

Funding

The maximum grant is $2,000 per year.

Non-consecutive year applications will be a higher priority.

Eligibility

Only Provincial Sport Organizations eligible for the Association Development Program may apply.

Eligible expenses

Eligible costs include:

  • coaches and officials development training
  • evaluation fees
  • equipment
  • other required material
