COVID-19: State of public health emergency. Mandatory measures remain in effect provincewide.
Overview
To protect our universally accessible, publicly funded health care system, we need to take meaningful action to improve key components of our system.
As part of the consultations, the Government of Alberta has made 11 proposals to the AMA to help build a stronger and more sustainable health system while managing physician spending growth.
Proposal 8: Clinical stipends provided by AHS
Clinical stipends, or payment top-ups, are a carry-over from when Alberta had several regional health authorities.
This practice is not appropriate as physicians are already compensated under the Alberta Health Care Insurance Plan. Removing these will help ensure there is fair compensation for patient care.
