Overview

The Classroom Improvement Fund (CIF) was originally designed as a one-time grant for the 2017-18 school year.

It has been renewed for the 2018-19 year, providing $77 million into classrooms across the province.

This school year, more than 400 teaching and support positions are expected to be created as a result of the CIF.

How it works

The CIF is distributed to schools based on student enrolment. For the 2018-19 school year, the focus is on hiring and retaining teachers and support staff, as well as better supporting students with complex needs, or those learning one of Canada’s official languages for the first time.

Alberta Education reviews and approves each proposal to ensure it's within the parameters of the grant program.

School authorities have until September 30, 2018 to describe how they will use their funds in 2018-19.
