Whereas the Province of Alberta recognizes the important role that school bus drivers play in the safety and well-being of the students they transport.
Whereas for many students in Alberta, the school day starts the moment they board the bus to go to school.
Whereas Alberta’s government values the efforts of school bus drivers throughout the province who transport approximately 300,000 students safely to and from school every day.
Whereas they are following Alberta Health Services’ COVID-19 guidelines to ensure student safety on school buses.
Whereas they are taking extra precautions, such as sanitizing their buses after every run and keeping daily logs of seating plans, to assist with contact tracing.
Whereas school bus drivers are a vital part of our school communities.
Whereas the Student Transportation Association of Alberta has requested to declare May 3, 2021, as School Bus Driver Appreciation Day to acknowledge the hard work and dedication of school bus drivers in the Province of Alberta.
Therefore, I, Adriana LaGrange, Minister of Education, do hereby declare May 3, 2021, School Bus Driver Appreciation Day in the Province of Alberta.
