Alberta’s government is committed to helping job creators and workers create a healthy and safe work environment. This mandate is supported by Alberta’s Occupational Health and Safety within Alberta’s Ministry of Labour and Immigration.
The OHS Legislation Search Tool provides Albertans with an innovative, convenient and accessible way to find and download sections of the Occupational Health and Safety Act (OHS Act), Regulation and Code – legislation which establishes health and safety standards for workplaces across the province.
The Alberta King’s Printer has always provided Albertans with flexible options to reference OHS legislation, including free PDF copies, online subscriptions, handbooks and binders. What makes this new tool different is the ability to quickly find individual sections from the act, regulation or code directly in your internet browser.
This web-based format will facilitate a smoother experience for Albertans with vision impairments, as screen readers often offer more reliable audio playback for web pages, compared to documents like PDFs. The tool also includes a search bar to find relevant sections by keyword.
Another notable feature within the search tool is the “My Quick Reference” section. As employers, workers and supervisors explore legislation, they will have the option to compile sections from all 3 legislation sources into one PDF that can be downloaded, printed and shared. This new ability to filter through the act, regulation and code will aid health and safety champions in sharing relevant OHS legislation in meetings, training, emails and presentations.
An online tutorial is available to help you get the most out of the tool.
I would like to thank department staff, Alberta King’s Printer and everyone involved in developing and launching the OHS Legislation Search Tool. This new solution will play a key role in making sure that all Albertans have a healthy and safe work environment.
