This marks the fourth time the community has hosted the national tournament since 2018, reinforcing Alberta’s reputation as a top-tier destination for hosting major national sport events. Alberta’s government provided $57,000 in funding to the Regional Recreation Corporation of Wood Buffalo through the Major Sport Event grant program to support the tournament.

The grant program provides financial assistance to support organizations in planning and hosting national and international competitions in Alberta. The event will host 264 athletes and is expected to attract as many as 1,000 spectators to the region. It is projected to generate up to $1.4 million for Fort McMurray’s local economy as participants book hotels, shop and dine at local businesses and restaurants.

“We are happy to welcome back the 18U National Championships and Canada’s rising baseball stars to the province. Fort McMurray’s hospitality and world-class facilities will ensure these championships are a tremendous success.”

Andrew Boitchenko, Minister of Tourism and Sport
