“The announcement of Condor’s new direct flight between Frankfurt and Edmonton is an important development for Alberta’s tourism and business sectors.

“Germany is the largest economy in Europe and Frankfurt is one of the busiest airports in in the country – a global hub connecting continental Europe to the rest of the world and now directly to Alberta.

“Condor’s decision to expand service directly to Alberta is a strong sign of confidence in our province. As our economy continues to grow and diversify, led by Alberta’s Recovery Plan, this direct flight will raise Edmonton’s international profile and make it easier for deal makers, job creators and travellers to explore the opportunities available in Alberta.

“Among those opportunities is the ability to move more products through our province. Edmonton is perfectly situated to be a major warehousing and logistics hub, with easy access to the Ports of Vancouver and Prince Rupert. The addition of a direct flight to Europe provides the capital region with an even greater strength to move cargo. This provides Alberta businesses the ability to get their high-quality products to more markets in Europe and beyond.

“Another window being opened is for Alberta’s tourism sector, which is coming out of two very difficult years. Tourism is critical to our economy, with spending worth more than $10 billion annually and more than 34 million visitors. This new flight complements efforts Alberta’s government has been making to support recovery and growth in Alberta’s tourism sector, including the recent expansion of Travel Alberta’s mandate.

“I look forward to welcoming a new group of visitors to Alberta so they experience all that our province has to offer as a world-class destination for business, investment, work – and play!”
