“Fraud takes on many forms and can be damaging to consumers and businesses. By working together to report fraud and educate consumers, we can stop fraud before it happens.

“Alberta’s government continues to protect consumers by enhancing confidence in the marketplace. We offer a wide array of consumer protection tools to help Albertans guard themselves against fraud, which ultimately helps to protect the lives and livelihoods of Albertans.

“Consumers can be proactive by accessing information on their rights and protections through our online library of tipsheets. They can also reduce the risk of fraud by checking online if a business is licensed, or by using our Business Enforcement Search Tool (BEST) to find out if Alberta’s government has taken action against an individual or business.

“If you think someone has tried to scam or defraud you, be sure to report it to your local police agency or to the Canadian Anti-Fraud Centre. For business-related scams, you can report them to Alberta’s Consumer Investigations Unit by calling 1-877-427-4088.”
