The task force will look at how communities are affected by homelessness. It will also look at developing a model for responding to people with complex needs. Additionally, it will make recommendations that will help create an action plan on homelessness for the province.

“As Alberta begins to recover from the pandemic, how communities deal with homelessness is key to Alberta’s recovery plan. With a measured approach developed by experts and community leaders, Alberta will be able to adapt better to the specific needs of our communities.”

Jason Kenney, Premier

The task force has representation from across Alberta and members have a range of experience and expertise on the issues related to homelessness.

“I would like to thank the community leaders and experts who have stepped up to help address this critical issue for vulnerable Albertans. Alberta’s government is committed to making a difference for people experiencing chronic homelessness. I expect this task force to move quickly with clear actions that make a difference in communities across the province.”

Jason Luan, Minister of Community and Social Services

“I am honoured to be appointed co-chair of this important committee. Working together with our municipal and provincial partners, we can find more equitable outcomes for the province’s shelter clients and ensure they are connected to the appropriate services to get them the help they need. Better alignment of shelter standards ensures vulnerable citizens receive adequate levels of support and have access to a full continuum of care, regardless of when and where they access resources in Alberta.”

Dale McFee, chief of police, Edmonton Police Service

“I am very pleased to join this task force. It aligns with Calgary Homeless Foundation’s fundamental belief that a cohesive, collaborative, unified approach to dealing effectively with the complexities of homelessness can best be solved when government ministries, social impact agencies and the community all work together with clearly defined accountabilities and shared outcomes. It is the best way to ensure that vulnerable individuals are presented with rapid and easy access to a comprehensive set of services and support that meet them wherever they are in their journey of recovery.”
