“The past year and a half has been a challenging time for Alberta’s small businesses. Despite these challenges, Alberta businesses have stepped up to the plate to do their part to help limit the spread of COVID-19 and keep Albertans safe.

“Alberta’s government has taken action to support Alberta’s small businesses throughout the pandemic, and with newly announced support for small and medium-sized businesses such as the REP Implementation Grant as well as ongoing efforts to cut red tape, we’ll continue to be there for them.

“It’s clearer now than ever that Alberta’s small businesses will be key to helping our province and our communities rebound and build back stronger.

“Alberta’s small businesses are the beating heart of our economy, accounting for 98 per cent of all businesses in Alberta, contributing more than $100 billion to our economy each year and employing more than 623,000 Albertans in the private sector. Their impact in our communities also reaches far beyond these numbers.

“Whether it’s donating supports and services to local charities or supporting the innovative community events that have kept us safely connected throughout the pandemic, Alberta’s small businesses are fundamental to the spirit and vibrancy of our hometowns and neighbourhoods.

“That’s why this Small Business Week, we’re calling on all Albertans to take some time to show appreciation for a local small business.

“Whether it’s supporting a local restaurant, shopping in store, online or at a farmers market, giving a good review, buying a gift card, telling your friends and family about a favourite spot of yours or boosting a small business on social media, every individual action – no matter how small – has the potential to make a lasting impact.”
