“Celebrated by Hindus in Alberta and around the world, Vijayadashami, or Dussehra, is the tenth day and culmination of Navratri, the autumn festival dedicated to the nine forms of goddess Durga.

“The day’s celebrations typically include prayer, traditional dancing, special meals and many other timeless traditions. I encourage all those observing the day to adapt their celebrations to the current public health requirements that keep us all safe. I have no doubt that, even with these adaptations, this year’s celebrations will express all the joy of Vijayadashami, or Dussehra, and the symbolic triumph of good over evil.

“I encourage all Albertans to reflect on the many contributions of our Hindu community and to extend greetings and best wishes to everyone celebrating Vijayadashami, or Dussehra.”
