“My heart goes out to the seniors who lost their homes in the terrible fire at the Citadel Mews complex in St. Albert May 6.

“The building was evacuated thanks to the quick and skilled actions of emergency crews.

“Three residents were transported to hospital. My thoughts are with those seniors and their loved ones, and I am praying for their quick recovery.

“Temporary accommodations for the residents have been secured at local hotels and every step is being taken to ensure they receive the care they need. Alberta Health Services and my department are working with the facility’s operator to find longer-term arrangements and to ensure seniors have the support they need during this difficult time.

“Support services are available by calling Alberta 211 and the Alberta Supports Centre at 1-877-644-9992. Seniors, their families, and anyone requiring mental health assistance can call the Mental Health Line at 1-877-303-2642.

“I have reached out to St. Albert Mayor Cathy Heron, President of Christenson Group of Companies Greg Christenson and Associate Minister of Natural Gas and Electricity Dale Nally, who represents Morinville-St. Albert, to express my concern and offer my support.

“Thank you to the emergency crews, staff at Citadel Mews, organizations who are helping with donations, and community members who are stepping up to help. Each of you has shown your true Alberta spirit.

“I know this fire is devastating for the residents and their families, the hard-working staff and the St. Albert community. My thoughts are with you as you cope with this terrible situation.”
