This afternoon, Premier Jason Kenney spoke with Prime Minister Justin Trudeau on the future of the Keystone XL pipeline project.

Premier Kenney thanked the Prime Minister for his government’s continued support for the project. He urged the federal government to do everything possible to convey a clear message to President-elect Biden that rescinding the Keystone XL border crossing permit would damage the Canada-US bilateral relationship.

The Prime Minister reiterated Canada’s strong support for the project and agreed with Premier Kenney that a retroactive veto of the border crossing would create a troubling precedent. The Prime Minister indicated that the Government of Canada is using all available channels to communicate its concern to the incoming US administration.

The two leaders agreed to stay in close contact in the coming days on the issue.
