Appointed for a three-year term by Minister of Justice and Solicitor General Kaycee Madu, Ukpabi joins 10 other members who recommend individuals for vacant provincial court judge positions.

Currently, Ukpabi is principal at YYC Lawyers – a corporate law and litigation boutique in Calgary. He was admitted to the Alberta bar in 2008 and was previously a partner at Lacourcière LLP. He is also a member of the Law Society of Alberta’s Equity, Diversity and Inclusion Advisory Committee.

Members of the nominating committee represent the Provincial Court of Alberta, the Law Society of Alberta, and the Canadian Bar Association - Alberta branch. Representatives from the province’s legal community and the public are also appointed to the committee by the Minister of Justice and Solicitor General.

Lawyers with at least 10 years at the bar can apply to become an Alberta provincial court judge.
