The South Bow River Bridge project also includes widening the westbound bridge and building a new, stand-alone pedestrian bridge. Together, these improvements will make travel safer in and around Calgary, directly and indirectly supporting about 357 jobs.

“This strategic investment and the over 350 jobs it creates deliver on our commitment to Alberta’s recovery and growth in the years ahead. Replacing the eastbound South Bow River Bridge will make it safer and more efficient to move in and around south Calgary. Investing in our highway network is one of the best ways to get our economy and Albertans moving again.”

Ric McIver, Minister of Transportation

“The construction of this new bridge is important for many reasons. It will create jobs at a time when they are most needed. It will improve safety outcomes and efficiency for those driving in this area, while also factoring in a better pedestrian and cyclist route. These investments in Calgary are always good news.”

Naheed Nenshi, mayor, City of Calgary

“This project will create a substantial number of jobs to support Alberta’s Recovery Plan and deliver real value for Albertans in the process. Investment in transportation infrastructure is a significant economic catalyst, and ARHCA members appreciate that government recognizes its importance. We look forward to helping government complete this and other projects in the future.”

Ron Glen, CEO, Alberta Roadbuilders and Heavy Construction Association

“The AMTA is pleased to support this announcement. This project will provide jobs, safer roads for Albertans and increase efficiencies for the transportation industry. In doing so, it strengthens the resilience of the supply chain."

Chris Nash, president, Alberta Motor Transport Association

Alberta’s Recovery Plan is a bold, ambitious long-term strategy to build, diversify, and create tens of thousands of jobs now. By building schools, roads and other core infrastructure we are benefiting our communities. By diversifying our economy and attracting investment with Canada’s most competitive tax environment, we are putting Alberta on a path for a generation of growth. Alberta came together to save lives by flattening the curve and now we must do the same to save livelihoods, grow and thrive.
