“September is Childhood Cancer Awareness Month.

“My thoughts are with young Albertans and their families who have received the heart-wrenching diagnosis of childhood cancer.

“Of all the cancer patients in Alberta, up to three per cent are children.

“Sadly, despite much progress, cancer is still the leading cause of disease-related death among children. Those who survive often must deal with the impact of the disease and treatment for the rest of their lives.

“As a parent, my heart goes out to every child with cancer and their family. I’m awe-struck by their bravery and their optimism.

“As Health Minister, I’m proud to say our government will continue to aggressively invest in robust research, state-of-the-art facilities and technology, and world-class oncology professionals to ensure that all children with cancer get diagnosed faster, receive treatment sooner, and have the longest life – and the best quality of life – we can give them.

“I invite all Albertans to participate online in CureFest 2020 on September 26. Together, we can bring hope, and help make childhood cancer research a priority. We must not stop until a cure is found, and every child is free to be a kid again.”
