Albertans are encouraged to consider nominating someone who has demonstrated extraordinary dedication and commitment to their trade and to apprenticeship and industry training.

“We need to send the message that trades make a huge contribution to our prosperity. Our province has literally been built by brilliant tradespeople and it is past time that we begin to honour their commitment to excellence. It’s also critical that we send a message to young Albertans that a trade certificate has every bit as much value as a university degree.”

Jason Kenney, Premier

“The skilled trades are a foundational part of Alberta’s economy. I am pleased to open nominations for the first-ever Alberta Trades Hall of Fame. These awards will help celebrate the skilled trades professions and honour Albertans who work everyday to support the growth and success of skilled trades and apprenticeship across the province.”

Demetrios Nicolaides, Minister of Advanced Education

The Alberta Trades Hall of Fame is part of the government’s Skills for Jobs agenda, which includes a commitment of more than $20 million to support and expand skilled jobs and apprenticeship education. Nominations can come from any Albertan: someone in industry, education, an apprentice or someone who simply knows a person who should be recognized for their contributions to the skilled trades and apprenticeship education.

“Nominees to the Alberta Trades Hall of Fame will be those extraordinary Albertans who have made a difference in their fields, who have worked hard to build our province and provide leadership in the development of our highly skilled workforce. They will be the people who have provided the education and mentorship that continues to raise the quality of our province’s skilled trades and certified professionals.”

Jackie Armstrong-Homeniuk, chair, Alberta Skilled Trades Caucus and MLA for Fort Saskatchewan-Vegreville

“Albertans have always valued the exceptional quality of work of our highly skilled tradespeople and certified professionals. I am excited to see who will be nominated for the new Alberta Trades Hall of Fame because they will be individuals who have worked hard through any number of paths, and earned the respect that comes with helping people build careers and lives, which ultimately helps to build our province and our future.”
