“Every year since 1945, Koreans all over the world have celebrated National Liberation Day. After decades of darkness under the shadow of oppression, the light returned.

“Much blood was spilled, and many lives lost, in the battle against tyranny. Commemorating those lives is a sombre part of the Liberation Day ceremonies.

“May we remember the many brave Albertans in the Canadian military who fought to help Koreans maintain their freedom. And as we do, may we also reflect on the freedom we enjoy today, what it means to us, and the work we must do to keep it.

“I wish every Albertan of Korean heritage a proud and joyous Day of Liberation!”
