The sounds and colours of dancing, drumming and singing by Indigenous artists will fill the main floor of Edmonton City Centre over the noon hour.

“On the longest day, the pride and vibrancy of Indigenous Peoples shine across our province. Throughout June, we celebrate Indigenous Peoples, who contribute to the social and economic life of our province. While June is a special time to celebrate Indigenous Peoples in Alberta, let’s continue to reach out to Indigenous Peoples all through the year, with greater understanding.”

Rick Wilson, Minister of Indigenous Relations

National Indigenous Peoples Day, which officially takes place on June 21, was first proclaimed in 1996 by the federal government. It is a day for all Canadians to recognize and celebrate the unique heritage, diverse cultures and outstanding contributions – past, present, and future – of First Nations, Inuit and Métis people.
