Photo of Alberta Northern Lights recipient Umair Ahad

Location: Calgary, Alberta

Umair is a Calgary social and human rights advocate. During COVID-19, he’s been working to support members of Calgary’s Pashtun community by dropping off food for individuals and families in need. He has also been making 15 to 20 calls every day to members of the community, answering any questions they may have about public health guidelines and orders and also translating information for them.

Umair is ensuring that important messages about social distancing and limiting the spread of COVID-19 are shared in Calgary’s Pashtun community.
