On June 3, they were recognized for creating masks for community members and raising funds for their local food bank.
Location: Okotoks, Alberta
The Masked Mamas are a group of volunteers in Okotoks who organize through social media to provide reusable cloth masks to anyone in their community. This group of volunteers donates time and materials to create masks, helping people who need to visit locations where it might not be possible to maintain physical distance to limit the spread of COVID-19.
While the masks are free, they do encourage donations to local charities, amplifying their efforts to support the community. By creating a supply of reusable masks for people who are not on the frontlines, the Masked Mamas are also ensuring that workers on Alberta’s frontlines in the fight against COVID-19 have access to proper personal protective equipment. So far, the Masked Mamas have distributed more than 1,000 masks and raised $2,000 for the Okotoks Food Bank.
Honour the contributions of an amazing individual or group.
