Location: Edmonton, Alberta
For the past 20 years, Guy Bodnarchuk has volunteered his time maintaining the large fish tanks at the Good Samaritan Dr. Gerald Zetter Centre, a continuing care centre/auxiliary hospital in Edmonton. He is used to coming in on a regular basis to look after the fish, clean the tanks, and engage with the residents.
As there are restrictions on outside visitors at continuing care facilities during COVID-19, he hasn’t been able to tend to the fish tanks as usual. Instead, he has been providing support over the phone and through email, helping to troubleshoot care of the fish and maintenance of the tanks and dropping off items they may need. Residents and staff miss his engaging smile and wealth of knowledge but appreciate their “Fish Guy” continuing to volunteer from afar.
