Putting a smile on the faces of Edmontonians is just part of the job for members of the Edmonton Dental Assistants Association (EDAA). However, this dedicated group of professionals is also stepping up to share that smile with others outside of office hours. For more than 50 years, EDAA members have volunteered to help create awareness and educate the public on the importance of dental health by hosting demonstrations and distributing dental supplies free of charge.
But passing along toothpaste tips and helpful flossing facts is only part of the contribution EDAA members are making in the community. Bi-monthly meetings of the association are an opportunity to do a bit of impromptu fundraising. Organizations like Ronald McDonald House, the Elizabeth Fry Society, iHuman and the Zebra Child Protection Centre are among the organizations having received donations from EDAA members. As volunteers, members of the EDAA are “filling” a need in the community – and that’s the tooth.
