On December 10, they were recognized for their online campaign to support local restaurants struggling during COVID-19.
Location: Calgary, Alberta
A group of Calgary youth have started an online campaign to help support local restaurants struggling during the COVID-19 pandemic. With seed money from the Chinese Merchants Association and named after an expression in Hong Kong that means to give support or encouragement, Add Oil YYC is a coupon giveaway program designed to encourage the patronage of small businesses.
Using social media platforms like Facebook and Instagram, community members are encouraged to leave a message on their posts, and gift certificates are given away through regular announcements. The youth team has also been posting interviews and features on their website that highlight and reveal the interesting stories behind many of these small businesses.
Through their online campaign, Add Oil YYC is giving back by shining a light on small businesses and driving community support towards them.
Honour the contributions of an amazing individual or group.
