Location: Edmonton, Alberta
When schools in the province closed due to COVID-19 and instruction moved online, many students had to adapt to a challenging and new learning environment. Connor Mi, a Grade 6 student in Edmonton who excels in academics, wanted to find a way to help his fellow students, who may be struggling with learning at home.
After discussing with his parents how to reach out to those in need, he started tutoring online via Zoom on March 23. He has divided his students into three classes, based on their grade level, and has conducted up to six Zoom lessons per week. Overall, he spends about ten hours a week on his tutoring, helping ten children from eight families. Connor is not only helping his peers learn, but also inspiring them through his dedication to his volunteer work.
