Funding through the Alberta Indigenous Climate Leadership programs have helped to reduce greenhouse gas emissions, diversify the economy and create employment.
Supporting Indigenous communities and organizations to create jobs, reduce energy costs, and cut greenhouse gas emissions.
Helps Indigenous communities / organizations increase climate leadership literacy, understand greenhouse gas emissions and prepare for the low-carbon economy.
Supports activities to understand energy conservation opportunities, set priorities to improve energy efficiency and reduce GHG emissions.
Supports detailed energy assessments to estimate energy savings and potential greenhouse gas emission reductions, if retrofits are done.
Supports energy efficiency retrofits to existing buildings and enhancements to new construction for Indigenous communities / organizations.
Supports Aboriginal Skills Employment and Training Strategy agreement holders to train Indigenous people for employment in a green economy.
Focuses on supporting the development of community-owned commercial or community-scale renewable energy generation projects.
Provides grants to install solar photovoltaic systems on community or organization facilities.
The following 7 grant programs make up the Indigenous Climate Leadership Initiative:
Alberta Indigenous Climate Capacity Program supports technical and leadership capacity within Indigenous communities.
Alberta Indigenous Climate Planning Program supports the development of Community Energy Plans and Energy Opportunity Assessments.
Alberta Indigenous Community Energy Program supports comprehensive building audits on buildings owned by Indigenous communities or organizations.
Alberta Indigenous Energy Efficiency Retrofit Program provides funding to improve energy efficiency in new and existing buildings owned by an Indigenous community or organization.
Alberta Indigenous Solar Program provides grants to Alberta Indigenous communities and organizations to install solar photovoltaic systems.
Alberta Indigenous Green Energy Development Program focuses on supporting the development of community-owned, commercial or community scale, renewable energy generation projects.
Alberta Indigenous Green Employment Program supports the Alberta Aboriginal Skills Employment and Training Strategy agreement holders, whose members will train Indigenous Peoples for employment in the green economy.
