SIAL Canada is one of North America’s most important food industry tradeshows and the only show of its scale in Canada, attracting over 900 national and international exhibitors and over 17,000 agri-food professionals from more than 60 countries. It provides a privileged entryway to American and international markets.
Alberta Agriculture and Forestry, the Government of British Columbia and Saskatchewan Trade and Export Partnership secured booth space to create a Western Canadian Pavilion that showcased 18 companies.
“It was great to see the collaboration among provinces to leverage the Canada brand and also to see all the companies interacting with each other and building synergies,” says Shelly Nguyen, trade and relations officer with Alberta Agriculture and Forestry. “Overall, companies were very satisfied with the show and meetings with prospective buyers and leads. Companies were also exposed to new market trends and innovative products and packaging ideas.”
Global Affairs Canada also participated at the show delivering seminars on the Comprehensive and Progressive Agreement for Trans-Pacific Partnership (CPTPP) and opportunities for exporters. There was also a large presence of Trade Commissioners from 15 markets to meet with Canadian companies to discuss opportunities and impacts of CPTPP.
A key component of SIAL included a program to set up meetings between Alberta companies and domestic and international buyers to discuss products and capabilities.
