Syrian refugees arriving in Alberta are allowed to access health care services, if needed, once they arrive.
Syrian refugee health program
Until Syrian refugees receive their Alberta health care card, they are covered for up to 12 months under the Government of Canada’s Interim Federal Health Program. This program:
- repays the cost of care to health-care providers, such as doctors, dentists, hospitals and pharmacies
- covers prescription medications listed on the Alberta Drug Benefit List
