Minister Leela Aheer and MLA Angela Pitt introduce Alberta’s first Ambassador for Sport and Active Living, Olympian Erica Wiebe.
As Alberta’s first Ambassador, Wiebe will work on promoting the value and importance of sport and physical activity to Albertans. Wiebe will also focus on encouraging under-represented populations, including women and girls, to engage in sport and physical activity. She will also engage sport and recreation sector stakeholders, offering her experiences and sharing stories.
“I am thrilled to announce Erica as our first Ambassador for Sport and Active Living. Her accomplishments and dedication to sport are inspirational. Her ability to connect and elevate is what makes her truly unique. She is so passionate about both youth and everyday Albertans being active and participating in sport. We thank her for being a true champion of health and wellness in our province.”
Wiebe, who began wrestling in high school, lives and trains in Calgary. She won gold in the 2014 and 2018 Commonwealth Games and at the 2016 Olympics in Rio de Janeiro.

Wiebe will also continue training during her ambassadorship for upcoming elite wrestling events, including the upcoming Tokyo 2020 Olympic Summer Games.
