This release was issued under a previous government.

Work to repair and improve the Highway 15 bridge between Fort Saskatchewan and Sturgeon County will get underway the week of June 19. This maintenance work to the underside of the bridge will include upgrades to its concrete piers, guardrails and drains.

Construction will mostly occur under the bridge, so the effect on traffic should be minimal. Lane closures will be rare but, if they are required, they would only occur overnight to eliminate the impact to traffic during peak hours. If required, the bridge will be reduced to alternating one- lane traffic between 9 p.m. and 5 a.m. on weekdays and 9 p.m. to 9 a.m. on weekends and holidays.

The work is expected to be complete this winter.

Additional work on Highway 15

Work to repave a four-kilometre section of Highway 15 between Edmonton and Fort Saskatchewan will start the week of July 3. At times, this work will be underway 24 hours a day to get the work completed as quickly as possible and minimize impact on traffic. Lane closures will be required at various stages of construction. The speed limit will be reduced to 50 km/h through the work zone for the duration of the project

In addition, the road under the CN bridge will be completely reconstructed. This will result in lane closures overnight, however construction will only occur on this section of the project between 7 p.m. and 6 a.m. Traffic delays may occur during this overnight work. During the day, the contractor will remove all equipment from the road and maintain regular traffic flow.

Work on this project is expected to be complete by late summer 2017.

Please observe all posted signs and flag staff. We appreciate drivers’ patience as we work to complete these improvements.
