The international spotlight of the Vancouver 2010 Olympic and Paralympic Winter Games and the events leading up to them, provided a unique opportunity to showcase Alberta as a world-class business, sport and tourism destination.

The Secretariat and Travel Alberta capitalized on this world-wide attention with creative programming and targeted initiatives.

Our friendly people and beautiful places were the backdrop as 150 million viewers across the globe tuned in to watch Alberta’s seven televised World Cup events.  The estimated 455 hours of coverage is equivalent to 41,000 commercials - all promoting our province as a premier tourism destination.

Alberta's tourism industry were also be engaged in this work, focusing on post-Olympic activities resulting from these efforts.
