Alberta's Involvement in the Games
The global spotlight shines on Vancouver, but the glow reaches across our country. Alberta is capitalizing on opportunities to invest in our future, while celebrating excellence in sport, culture and the arts.
Creating Opportunities in Vancouver
The Olympic Games are a celebration of an incredible journey and possibilities, where the spirit to achieve mixes with dreams, and goals are reached by athletes … and businesses alike. The Alberta Olympic and Paralympic Secretariat was created to coordinate Alberta’s approach and during the Vancouver 2010 Olympic and Paralympic Winter Games, to pursue opportunities and create a legacy for Alberta that will generate benefits for years to come.
During the Olympic Winter Games, the Secretariat created and offered business-to-business connections through the use of Alberta House and the Alberta Train. Through our partnership in the Games we invested in business, tourism, sport and the arts by:
- Supporting and participating in the 2010 Winter Games
- Staging the Vancouver 2010 Olympic Torch relay as it travels through Alberta
- Hosting seven World Cups and the Canadian Curling Trials
- Showcasing Alberta’s athletes, artists in Vancouver and at home
- Celebrating pride of community and country
